It was a pleasure to host my second round of community gatherings in Lincoln, Lincoln Heights, Skyline Acres/Southwood Park, the East Plat/Downtown, and Bishop Drive/Lian-Valcour during the months of September and October. As always, thank you to the City and Town Councillors who joined me to hear from our mutual constituents.
Thank you to all who could make it. Due to the postal strike, we weren’t able to get flyers into all your mailboxes, but we did do mail drops as best we could. I hope you were able to get information about these events. Hearing from you is the best way I can represent your concerns and know what matters to you. Below are some of the things I heard and followed up on from the fall community gatherings.
Lincoln – With Oromocto Councilors Ryan Carr and Gary Von Richter
Dangerous trail and road intersections: I spoke with a City Traffic engineer to better understand trail safety and calming measures. For Lincoln, I contacted the trail coalition and the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) who are responsible for trail maintenance.
I visited where the trail intersects with Garden Grove and as a result, I asked DNR to cut the brush obscuring the view of the intersection for both trail users and drivers. I requested that the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DTI) consider signage and painting diagonal lines across the road to signify a trail crossing.
Update on the New Pool: I checked with the City about the status of the new pool. They are still committed to the project but are now exploring partnerships, such as with the YMCA, to make it more affordable.
Multiple road and traffic problems: I met with the Regional Director from DTI after visiting all the sites mentioned at the community gathering.
The Nevers Road and the off-ramp from the Vanier Highway at the new Scholtens: The ramps and bridge over the TransCanada are the responsibility of a private company, MRDC, so DTI will contact them. DTI will try to repair the portion they are responsible for this summer. DTI will explore signage for the school bus stop and turning traffic from Cynthia Lane.
Speeding on the Lincoln Road in School Zone: Regional DTI Director will investigate adding graphic school crossing triangles above the existing reduced speed signage in both directions for the school zone.
Poor snow clearing on dangerous curve on Garden Grove: Noted for this winter.
Overgrown ditches on Nevers Road: I pushed for DTI to go back to clearing ditches and mowing themselves, rather than contracting out which has not been working because they are unable to pay sufficiently to hire contractors. Currently there is a backlog of ditches and roadsides that need clearing and mowing. DTI had only managed to hire one contractor so progress has been slow.
Tamarack Park lacks policing: I will invite the RCMP to come to our next community gathering in the spring to address these concerns directly with the public.
Accessing Healthcare through sowhywait.ca website: I posted and promoted sowhywait.ca on my social media. I encourage you to use it as a way to get an appointment.
