David Coon: Green Party Leader & MLA for Fredericton-Lincoln

David Coon became the first Green Party MLA elected to the Provincial Legislature in 2014 to represent the people of Fredericton South. He was re-elected on September 24, 2018, again on September 14, 2020, and most recently for the new riding of Fredericton-Lincoln in 2024. He has served as the Leader of the New Brunswick Green Party since 2012.
Mr. Coon garnered all-party support for his proposal to create a code of conduct for MLAs. His bill to amend the Education Act to ensure public school students learn about historical and contemporary relationships with First Nations was adopted unanimously on his second attempt. He was also successful in having the Legislative Assembly officially recognize both Truth & Reconciliation Day and Emancipation Day in New Brunswick.
He has introduced bills to improve social assistance, strengthen tenant protections, establish a rent cap, expand the use of renewable energy, establish fair access to the lumber market for woodlot owners, end glyphosate spraying on Crown lands, ban fracking, enhance property tax fairness, boost local food security, lower the voting age, and protect citizens from frivolous lawsuits.
In his former riding of Fredericton South, Mr. Coon established a permanent seniors round table to ensure he can represent their concerns in the Legislative Assembly. He holds community meetings twice a year in each of the neighborhoods in his riding to in order to effectively represent his constituents in the Legislative Assembly.
After earning a science degree at McGill University, Mr. Coon had a 32-year career as an environmental advocate – most of it at the Conservation Council of New Brunswick. His work to protect drinking water led to the creation of New Brunswick’s Clean Water Act. His work in advancing public policy on climate change earned him a silver medallion at the Canadian Environmental Achievement Awards.
Mr. Coon and his wife, Janice Harvey, have two daughters, and live in Fredericton’s Skyline Acres neighborhood.





Megan Mitton: Green Party Deputy Leader and MLA for Tantramar

Megan Mitton was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick to represent the people of Memramcook-Tantramar on September 24, 2018, was re-elected on September 14, 2020, and was once again re-elected as MLA for the new riding of Tantramar in 2024. She is a Deputy Leader of the New Brunswick Green Party and the Green Caucus Advocate on matters of Healthy and Inclusive Communities, Affordable Housing, and Climate Justice. She is the first Green MLA to be elected in her riding and the first woman elected as a Green MLA in New Brunswick history.
Ms. Mitton grew up in Sackville, NB, and graduated from Tantramar Regional High School. She earned her Bachelor of Arts at McGill University in Montreal, QC, where she studied international development, political science and women’s studies. After a decade of work and volunteering experience in the non-profit sector, Ms. Mitton was elected to serve as a Sackville Town Councillor in 2016.
During her time as MLA, Ms. Mitton has been a community champion for the residents of Strait Shores, Tantramar and Memramcook, fighting for access to healthcare services, coastal protection, and affordable housing and bringing their voices to the legislature. She has successfully advocated for increased public funding for flu shots and diabetes supplies so that those who need them have access.
In the Legislature, she has served on many committees, including the Public Accounts Committee and the Climate Change and Environmental Stewardship Committee.
Ms. Mitton and her husband, Steve Geier, currently reside in their hometown of Sackville with their two children.
