Green Party Leader calls on Higgs government to direct carbon tax revenues to implementing Climate Action Plan
Fredericton – Green Party Leader and MLA for Fredericton-South David Coon calls on the Higgs government to use the revenue from the consumer carbon charge to fund programs and incentives for New Brunswickers.
“The effectiveness of a modest carbon charge for consumers, in reducing their consumption of fossil fuels, is entirely dependent on whether the revenues are used to provide programs to citizens that make it possible for them to insulate their homes, replace their heating systems, or gain access to public transportation,” says Coon.
“I am calling on the Premier to earmark the revenue from the consumer carbon charge to fund the Climate Action Plan so that New Brunswickers will have help to lower their heating costs and gain access to public transportation services that meet their needs.”
