Did you know that Fredericton has an after hours Mobile Crisis Unit that responds to mental health emergencies? If you or someone you know, is experiencing a mental health crisis, reach out to them at 506-453-2132. They operate from 4:30 p.m. to midnight Monday through Friday, and from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. They will come to you to intervene and provide help on-site. You can find out more here.
In a time when mental health problems are increasing in response to situations exacerbated by Covid-19, and with police responding to an increasing number of wellness check requests, we need the Mental Health Mobile Crisis Unit more than ever. As MLA, I would like to see them become 24-7 first responders similar to police and paramedics.
Mobile Crisis Unit responders are highly trained in mental health emergency intervention and work with individuals and families to defuse crisis situations in the person’s own home or other environments. When a mental health emergency occurs, we need mental health professionals to be there.
