Green Party Leader announces bill that secures woodlot owners’ access to markets and bans spraying of glyphosate on Crown forests

Fredericton – Green Party Leader and MLA for Fredericton-South, David Coon, announced that he will present a bill that would secure woodlot owners’ access to markets at the Federation of Woodlot Owners AGM in Fredericton today.  The bill will also ban the spraying of herbicides, such as glyphosate, on Crown forests.

“Rural New Brunswickers in every corner of the province depend on sale of wood from their woodlots for their livelihoods; this bill will ensure that more wood from private woodlots will make it to our mills and that private woodlot owners will be fairly compensated,” says Coon.

“Successive governments have failed to implement the Auditor General’s 2015 recommendations to ensure private woodlot owners have fair access to the market as required by the Crown Lands and Forests Act; this bill will remedy that.”

The bill will amend the Crown Lands and Forests Act and will be tabled when the Legislature resumes.
